How YouTube’s Stablecoin Payouts Change How Creators Get Paid
In December 2025, YouTube introduced an option for eligible US creators to receive payouts in PayPal’s US dollar stablecoin (PYUSD) instead of traditional bank transfers or standard PayPal balances. This change does not alter how creators earn or calculate revenue—earnings are still determined in US dollars from ads, memberships, and related features. The only difference is at payout: creators can opt to receive funds as PYUSD, which is fully backed by US dollar reserves and can be held within PayPal, redeemed for cash, or transferred to supported blockchains. The program is currently US-only, and creators must actively choose the stablecoin option; existing payout methods remain available. This move signals growing mainstream adoption of stablecoins as alternative payments infrastructure, emphasizing digital dollars as a viable rail for moving funds rather than focusing on speculative crypto uses.
