IBM Connects Banks To Swift’s Blockchain Ledger For Tokenized Deposits
IBM is helping banks adopt blockchain without replacing familiar payment operations. A new adapter lets institutions send instructions to Swift’s tokenized-deposit ledger using existing payment-message formats, avoiding blockchain-specific interfaces. This matters because adoption depends not only on asset transfer, but on connecting with current compliance, messaging, and operational systems. Swift’s network reaches more than 12,500 institutions in over 200 markets, and 17 institutions are already testing the model. IBM is also launching an on-premises beta of Digital Asset Haven, allowing banks to run digital-asset infrastructure in their own data centers on IBM Z and LinuxONE rather than relying on public cloud. The approach is aimed at regulated banks that want blockchain features such as programmability and faster settlement while keeping bank-controlled infrastructure and ISO 20022 messaging on top.
