Inside the FBI’s under-the-radar crypto crime symposium
Summary
The FBI’s annual, invitation-only Virtual Asset Technical Exchange brings law enforcement, international investigators and crypto firms together to share intelligence on digital-asset crime. This year’s event included Chainalysis, TRM Labs, FinCEN, Security Alliance and a presentation on stablecoin compliance. Hundreds attended, discussing illicit finance, scams, human trafficking, North Korean activity, emerging hacks and investigative techniques. A session examined the Drift exploit, which resulted in more than $270 million stolen. The symposium has broadened its industry participation as investigators increasingly rely on crypto companies and blockchain analysts to trace funds and identify attackers.
