Is the Red September Curse Over? Bitcoin Set for Best September on Record
Bitcoin is on track for its strongest September on record, up about 7.33% month-to-date and narrowly ahead of September 2024’s 7.29% with one day left. September has historically been Bitcoin’s weakest month, averaging a 2.34% loss and closing lower in 8 of the past 13 years, but recent years have shown a shift with three straight green Septembers. The month started near $78,500 after August’s rally, then weakened after the Senate’s Clarity Act failed a cloture vote and the Fed raised rates by 25 basis points, briefly pushing Bitcoin toward $75,000. Momentum later reversed as spot Bitcoin ETFs saw heavy inflows, shorts were squeezed, and Bitcoin surged to $87,354 before retreating to around $83,000. Technical indicators remain bullish, with strong trend readings and a golden cross still intact. Bitcoin must close above roughly $83,600 to secure the September record.
