Japan's Metaplanet Plants Its Flag in the US With $132M Bitcoin Treasury Deal

Summary

Metaplanet is expanding into the U.S. by seeding a Nasdaq-listed Bitcoin treasury company with 2,100 BTC, worth about $132.1 million, plus $2.5 million in cash. The recipient, Super League Enterprise, will be renamed Superplanet, Inc. and trade as SUPA, while continuing its advertising business as a separate segment. Metaplanet will own about 95.7% of the common stock at closing, expected in Q4. The move is designed to use U.S. capital markets to scale a single Bitcoin balance across two listed platforms. Metaplanet currently holds 43,000 BTC, making it the third-largest corporate Bitcoin holder. Analysts said the deal differs from recent treasury shell/PIPE structures because it uses Bitcoin from Metaplanet’s own balance sheet, not third-party capital raised at a discount. The company has also been expanding into Bitcoin-linked financial products and had previously signaled a U.S. Bitcoin strategy.
