JPMorgan CEO Condemns Crypto, Calls For Government Shutdown
During a Senate Banking Committee hearing, JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon expressed his strong opposition to cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and called for a ban on digital assets. He cited concerns about their use in criminal activities such as money laundering and tax avoidance. Dimon previously referred to Bitcoin as a "hyped-up fraud." However, he acknowledged the potential of blockchain technology, which underpins cryptocurrencies. In a separate report, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police disclosed details of an ongoing investigation into drug traffickers accused of using cryptocurrency to launder proceeds and smuggling marijuana concealed within barrels of maple syrup. The investigation, known as the 'Decrypt' operation, led to the arrest of multiple individuals and the seizure of millions of dollars' worth of assets. The total cryptocurrency market capitalization has reached $1.56 trillion as of now.
