King Charles Convenes OpenAI, Anthropic, Nvidia and Google for AI Safety Summit
King Charles III hosted senior leaders from Nvidia, OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google DeepMind at Dumfries House to discuss AI safety and whether the industry and governments can agree on shared principles for developing AI “in the service of humanity.” The event, organized with the Ditchley Foundation and royal charities, included Britain’s AI minister. Charles praised efforts to use AI for good, but no formal agreement was announced. The meeting came amid growing debate over slowing frontier AI development. Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei recently argued the industry should pace model advances, citing systems that can improve successors and a sandbox-escape incident involving an OpenAI agent. OpenAI has since delayed launches and changed its monitoring practices. The push has also unsettled markets, hitting chip stocks. Donald Trump, meanwhile, has dismissed AI doomsday warnings as a hoax.
