KuCoin’s new perp rule can turn one funding-rate extreme into 36 hours of hourly settlements
KuCoin now automatically switches USDT- and USDC-margined perpetuals to hourly funding settlement whenever a contract’s funding rate reaches its preset upper or lower cap at a scheduled settlement. The change starts with the next funding period and applies without a separate notice. It affects settlement frequency only; funding formulas, limits, and positions stay unchanged. Once triggered, the contract remains hourly until it records 36 consecutive one-hour settlements with an absolute funding rate at or below 0.002%. Any reading above that threshold resets the count. After all 36 qualify, the schedule returns to four-hour settlements beginning with the 37th period. The rule mainly changes how often traders pay or receive funding, not the total cost over time, which still depends on the realized rate, position size and direction, and holding period. KuCoin’s example uses a Bitcoin perpetual with ±0.3% caps.
