Lithuania-Licensed Crypto Bank Meld to Offer Tokenized RWAs to Retail Investors

Summary

Crypto-friendly bank Meld is planning to offer lending and borrowing against tokenized real-world assets (RWAs) to retail investors. The bank has partnered with the layer-1 blockchain of the same name and signed a memorandum of understanding with decentralized finance platform Swarm Markets. Swarm, licensed in Germany, started a permissionless RWA trading platform in December. Meld will use Swarm's platform to offer on-chain lending and borrowing for these assets, providing cross-asset margining opportunities for retail investors. Meld recently secured its virtual asset service provider license in Lithuania, potentially easing the process of obtaining equivalent licenses in other European Union member states. Tokenized RWAs are expected to become a multitrillion dollar business in the crypto industry. Meld has already had 75,000 prospective customers sign up for early access to its platform.
