Massive Bitcoin Expansion: CME Debuts ‘Friday Futures,’ Nasdaq Pursues BTC Index Options
CME Group has launched a new smaller-sized Bitcoin futures contract called "Bitcoin Friday Futures" (BFF), priced at one-50th of a full Bitcoin, approximately $1,200 per contract. This initiative aims to enhance accessibility for retail investors, responding to increased demand for smaller investment options. CME's micro Bitcoin futures have seen a 200% volume increase this year. The BFF contracts are pending regulatory review and are expected to launch on September 30th. Concurrently, Nasdaq has filed with the SEC to introduce options contracts tied to a Bitcoin index, aiming to provide investors with new exposure and hedging opportunities. This move follows the SEC's lack of approval for options linked to newly launched spot Bitcoin ETFs. The cryptocurrency market remains volatile, with Bitcoin recently dropping to $61,600 after reaching $65,000.
