Mastercard Introduces Fraud Screening Before Stablecoin Payments Go On-Chain
Summary
Mastercard has introduced Stablecoin Security, an API-based tool that helps banks and payment firms assess fraud, sanctions and scam risks before and during stablecoin transfers. It combines payment intelligence with blockchain data, examining transaction context, fund origins and potential links to restricted parties. Borderless.xyz and Keyrails are its first partners. Mastercard cites research on 593 million stablecoin transfers and 141 million Ethereum transactions in 2025, finding nearly 60% followed complex, multi-step routes. The service is launching initially in North America, with wider commercial availability expected in 2027.
