Mercado Bitcoin Hack: $8M in Ethereum Moved After Attack

Summary

Arkham Intelligence identified about $8 million in ETH moved to new wallets linked to the November 2 Mercado Bitcoin breach, in which attackers reportedly stole $46 million to $49 million. Investigators, law enforcement and crypto firms have helped freeze nearly $10 million, including more than $9 million in USDT, but substantial assets remain beyond their control. The attacker also holds various altcoins and has made token swaps. Investigators are monitoring activity; there is no confirmation the ETH has been sent to Tornado Cash. Mercado Bitcoin says customers were not harmed and previously suspended deposits and withdrawals.
