MetaMask Launches Self-Custodial AI Wallet for Autonomous Crypto Trading
MetaMask launched Agent Wallet, a self-custodial wallet that lets AI agents make on-chain transactions within user-set limits. The tool is aimed at traders and developers using agents to monitor markets, find opportunities, and execute trades autonomously. Users can set spending caps, allow only specific protocols, adjust risk settings, and choose between “Guard Mode” and “Beast Mode” for different automation levels. Agent Wallet supports Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, OpenClaw, Hermes, OpenCode, Hyperliquid, and EVM-compatible networks. It also includes gas abstraction, so fees can be paid in the asset being transferred rather than requiring the chain’s native token. MetaMask says the design reduces risk by using wallet-level permissions instead of fully trusting AI agents. Transactions are screened with simulation, threat scanning, and MEV protection, and eligible transactions can receive up to $10,000 per month in Transaction Protection coverage. The launch follows an earlier limited rollout and comes amid growing competition from Coinbase and MoonPay in AI-agent crypto tools.
