Montenegro court rejects Do Kwon’s appeal, clears way for extradition to South Korea
The Appellate Court of Montenegro has rejected Do Kwon's appeal to stop his extradition to South Korea. Kwon, the co-founder of the defunct Terraform Labs, is facing criminal charges in South Korea related to the collapse of Terra's UST stablecoin, which led to global investor losses exceeding $40 billion. The court's decision is final and cannot be appealed. Initially, a Montenegrin high court ruled to extradite Kwon to the US, but the Appellate Court overturned this due to procedural violations. After a retrial, the High Court of Podgorica decided Kwon should be extradited to South Korea as their request came before the US's. Last month, Montenegro deported Terraform Labs’ CFO, Han Chang-Joon, to South Korea on criminal charges. Both Kwon and Chang-Joon were arrested in Montenegro last year for using falsified official documents.
