NEAR Intents suffers $3.8M exploit after assistance with Bitget breach

Summary

NEAR Intents disclosed a security breach that led to about $3.8 million in user fund losses. The issue stemmed from a bug in the interaction between Omni deposit/withdrawal infrastructure and the NEAR Intents smart contract. The protocol said the vulnerable contract-side component has been patched and that users will be fully compensated. It also reported the incident to law enforcement and is working with security and blockchain analytics partners to trace and recover the funds, with a fuller report promised soon. Blockchain investigator ZachXBT said the stolen funds were moved to KuCoin and then bridged to Bitcoin. The attacker’s identity is still unknown. The breach came shortly after NEAR Intents helped respond to Bitget’s $388 million security incident, during which it blocked $50 million and froze over $500,000 tied to the attack.
