Pro-Bitcoin Senator Accuses FDIC Of Sabotaging Digital Asset Documentation – Details
US Senator Cynthia Lummis has accused the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) of attempting to destroy documentation related to its digital asset activities. In a letter to FDIC Chair Marty Gruenberg, Lummis cites whistleblower claims of threats against FDIC staff to prevent disclosures to the Senate. She asserts that these actions violate transparency principles and demands an immediate halt to any document destruction, insisting that all records related to digital assets since January 1, 2022, be preserved. Lummis emphasizes that documents associated with terms like "crypto" and "Bitcoin" must be maintained, regardless of their classification. She warns of potential criminal referrals to the US Department of Justice if evidence of obstruction or destruction is found. Bitcoin is currently trading above $101,000, reflecting an 8% weekly increase.
