Pudgy Penguins Launched A New Game. Crypto Scammers Made A Fake Version
A phishing website impersonating the newly launched Pudgy World browser game is attempting to steal cryptocurrency wallet passwords, according to cybersecurity firm Malwarebytes Labs. The fake site, pudgypengu-gamegifts[.]live, closely mimics crypto wallet interfaces and tricks users into entering sensitive credentials by presenting convincing wallet unlock screens. Pudgy World, launched March 10, requires some players to connect crypto wallets to access features tied to digital collectibles. The phishing campaign appears timed to exploit an influx of new users unfamiliar with wallet security and targets multiple wallet types, indicating either a sophisticated threat actor or the use of advanced phishing kits. Such scams commonly involve fake domains or manipulated ads to deceive users. Pudgy Penguins, an NFT brand with a significant online presence and a floor price far below its 2024 peak, has previously been targeted by similar attacks. Users are advised to access official platforms via trusted bookmarks, avoid suspicious links, and remember real wallet prompts do not appear within webpages. If credentials are compromised, users should change passwords and move funds to a new wallet.
