Qubic freezes chain after attacker drains 1.4K wallets with weak seeds

Summary

Qubic halted its layer-1 network after an attacker exploited weak wallet seeds generated through certain Apple browsers and an older iOS app, stealing about $1.4 million from more than 1,400 accounts. Qubic said 87.1% of the funds remain frozen on the network, while MEXC froze the account that received the remaining 12.9%. The flaw came from using JavaScript’s Math.random() for seed generation; Qubic replaced it with the cryptographically secure crypto.getRandomValues() in a wallet update. The team is identifying affected wallets and preparing recovery options for a vote by network Computors. No restart date has been announced.
