Ripple gets final US trust bank approval. What does XRP gain?
Ripple said the OCC granted final approval for Ripple National Trust Bank, following conditional approval in December 2025 and objections from banking groups. The trust bank can manage segregated RLUSD reserves, serve as collateral trustee and provide fiduciary digital-asset custody, but cannot offer ordinary deposits or loans. RLUSD issuance remains with Ripple subsidiary Standard Custody, while BNY remains its primary reserve custodian. The approval supports Ripple’s expanding stablecoin and institutional-services business, alongside custody and trading initiatives. Its impact on XRP is uncertain: RLUSD activity may generate some XRP use on the XRP Ledger, but institutions can transfer RLUSD without buying XRP, and the stablecoin also operates on Ethereum.
