Robinhood Would Likely Win Crypto Court Case With the SEC: KBW
The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has issued a Wells Notice to Robinhood (HOOD), despite the company's conservative approach to digital asset listings, according to a research report by KBW. Robinhood offers fifteen cryptocurrencies on its U.S. platform, while some competitors offer over two hundred. KBW expects no changes to Robinhood's current U.S. crypto operations or asset listings and predicts the SEC will bring a suit within the coming months. Crypto trading accounts for 12% of Robinhood's revenue, and KBW believes the SEC will target a subset of digital assets on the platform. The worst-case scenario for Robinhood would be if the SEC categorizes ether (ETH) as a security, as it makes up approximately 25% of Robinhood's crypto assets/trading. Robinhood shareholders may not have full clarity on the outcome of a potential legal case until late 2025 at the earliest.
