Russia clears first crypto exchanges, custodians under new law
Summary
The Bank of Russia registered its first authorized crypto operators under regulations that took effect Sept. 1, listing four exchanges and five custodians. VTB Bank appears on both lists, while Sberbank is among the custodians. Sberbank plans to launch crypto products on Dec. 1, initially supporting Bitcoin, Ether and USDt through its existing platforms. The registrations follow a law signed by President Vladimir Putin that established Bank of Russia oversight of exchanges, custodians, brokers and investors, while retaining the ban on using crypto for payments.
