Sam Altman’s World Taps Coinbase’s Open Protocol to Verify Humans Behind AI Agents
World has launched AgentKit, a developer toolkit in beta that integrates its World ID identity system with the x402 protocol, created by Coinbase and Cloudflare. AgentKit enables AI agents to cryptographically prove they act on behalf of verified, unique humans while safeguarding user anonymity. This addresses the growing issue of bots automating tasks such as booking tickets or accessing APIs, which can degrade fairness and user experience. By using World’s orb device, individuals verify their identity and delegate their World ID to an AI agent, which then authenticates its human connection without revealing personal details. Integrated with x402, AgentKit lets platforms require proof-of-personhood before granting access or completing transactions, allowing enforcement of limits based on unique human users rather than arbitrary agent accounts. World, formerly Worldcoin, has nearly 18 million verified users in over 160 countries. The initiative aims to provide a global solution for distinguishing humans from bots across digital services, promoting fairer allocation of resources and preserving genuine human online interactions as automation increases.
