Samsung Wallet is getting native stablecoins – and it could make one token the default for 800M users
Samsung said in its Galaxy Unpacked recap that Wallet updates “will also support stablecoins,” but gave no product details, issuer, token, network, custody model, market, or launch date. The key issue is what “support” means: it could range from a native balance, send/receive, or payment flow to a simple funding link or partner account handoff. Samsung Wallet already supports payments, IDs, passes, and some crypto functions, and it previously added a Coinbase funding integration in the U.S. and Canada. The launch could materially affect stablecoin distribution because Samsung controls the interface and can favor one issuer, network, or partner. But Samsung has not said whether it will hold, issue, redeem, or merely route users to a third party. Legal and compliance obligations would depend on the design and region, with rules such as the U.S. GENIUS Act and EU MiCA potentially relevant.
