Standard Chartered launches spot Bitcoin and Ether trading in UAE

Summary

Standard Chartered has launched spot Bitcoin and Ether trading for institutional clients in the UAE through its Dubai International Financial Centre-regulated entity. It says this makes it the first global bank and first Global Systemically Important Bank to offer institutional digital asset trading in the region. Eligible clients can trade BTC and ETH through the bank’s existing electronic trading channels. The launch expands Standard Chartered’s regulated crypto services in the UAE, following its digital asset custody rollout there in September 2024. The bank also signed a June agreement with CoinMENA to support fiat on- and off-ramps, client money accounts, and virtual account transaction management. Other firms, including Capital.com and Revolut, are also pursuing UAE crypto approvals.
