Starknet voters back research into life beyond Ethereum
Starknet governance voters overwhelmingly backed research into turning the network into an independent, post-quantum layer-1 blockchain. The seven-day, non-binding poll received about 3,200 votes, with 93.52% of voting power in favor and the highest participation in the network’s governance history. StarkWare and the Starknet Foundation will form a working group and develop proposals, including a whitepaper draft expected in November. A separate binding vote would be required to make the transition; Starknet remains an Ethereum layer 2 for now. STRK would remain the native token, and Ethereum bridges would stay open under the proposal. StarkWare says Ethereum-dependent bridge and data-availability infrastructure complicate quantum resistance, and is targeting 2027, ahead of Ethereum’s projected 2029 timeline. Its tested quantum-resistant technology is experimental and unaudited.
