Story Protocol Rebrands as Data Network in AI Training Pivot After IP Token Falls 98%
Story Protocol has rebranded as Data Network, shifting from a broad intellectual property focus to AI training data infrastructure. The new direction includes Trace, an on-chain registry for AI training data, and Kled, an opt-in human data marketplace. Leadership said work on IP revealed the clearest opportunity was AI data, especially as AI labs have largely exhausted freely scrappable internet data and now need sourced, verified, legally usable datasets. Data Network aims to unify data sourcing, processing, and verification into a single trust layer for AI training data. The token has also changed from IP to DATA, with a 1:1 migration for holders and no action required. The token remains far below its peak, though it has recently rebounded.
