Strategy Pauses Bitcoin Buying As Cash Reserve Hits $3.225B
Strategy paused Bitcoin purchases during July 13–19 while building a $3.225 billion cash reserve. The company still holds 843,775 BTC, acquired for $63.69 billion at an average price of $75,476 per coin, and did not sell any Bitcoin. Instead, it raised $263.5 million by selling 2.73 million Class A shares. The pause highlights that Strategy’s BTC plan depends not just on accumulation, but also on liquidity management, debt service, and preferred dividend obligations. The cash reserve is meant to help meet those commitments without forcing Bitcoin sales. Equity issuance remains central to the model, but it also brings dilution tradeoffs for shareholders. The main takeaway is that Strategy is shifting attention from headline BTC buying toward the financial structure that supports its treasury strategy. A week without purchases is less important than the fact that the company is strengthening its ability to keep holding Bitcoin.
