Tether Enforces Freeze On $12 Million In Tron Funds Over Illicit Activity
Tether froze $12.3 million in USDT on the Tron blockchain, targeting wallets linked to money laundering and sanctions evasion. The T3 Financial Crime Unit (FCU) collaborates with Tron and TRM Labs to monitor suspect transactions, having frozen over $126 million in questionable assets since late 2024, with $100 million blocked in the last quarter of that year. Tether blacklists wallets associated with sanctioned entities, including individuals on the Specially Designated Nationals (SDN) list. In March 2025, Tether froze $27 million on the Russian-linked exchange Garantex. Tether also blacklisted $374,000 in USDT related to North Korea's Lazarus Group. Additionally, Tether acquired a 32% equity stake in Elemental Altus Royalties for approximately $89 million, diversifying its assets to strengthen confidence in its stablecoin and comply with regulatory demands.
