Texas Blockchain Council, Riot Platforms Sue Dept. of Energy, OMB Over 'Emergency' Survey
The Texas Blockchain Council and Riot Platforms sued the U.S. Department of Energy, Secretary Granholm, and other officials for "illegally" demanding proprietary energy information from mining companies. The Energy Information Administration requested this data under an emergency review, citing potential public harm due to increased mining activity during a cold snap. The lawsuit claims that the demand violates standard clearance processes and threatens companies with criminal fines and penalties. TBC President Lee Bratcher criticized the EIA's actions as government intrusion into private industry operations without proper cause or process. Texas legislators have shown support for the mining industry. The EIA, DOE, and OMB have been contacted for comment.
