Thailand’s SEC Greenlights Investment From Institutional and Wealthy Individuals in Crypto ETFs

Summary

Thailand's Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has permitted institutional investors and high-net-worth individuals to invest in crypto exchange-traded funds (ETFs). The SEC has reclassified spot bitcoin ETFs as securities, enabling Thai securities firms to invest in them. The SEC is considering extending this investment opportunity to individual investors. Previously, the Thai SEC required individuals to invest in digital assets exclusively through registered local exchanges and had stated in January 2024 that it did not plan to allow asset management firms to launch spot bitcoin ETFs.
