THORChain rejects Bitget request to block hacker as $6 million moves to bitcoin

Summary

A wallet linked to the attacker who stole about $388 million from Bitget exchanged roughly 2,390 ETH, worth $6.3 million, for 75.2 BTC through THORChain on Monday. The swaps sent bitcoin to a single address, while four more transactions remained pending. Bitget asked THORChain to block known attacker addresses, but the network defended its policy of open access, saying its emergency controls can halt or restrict trading across routes, not selectively freeze funds. THORChain used those controls during its own May exploit, but did not blacklist that attacker. Some of Monday’s swaps were only partly filled because they failed minimum-price requirements.
