TON jumps 15% as The Open Network plans rebrand to Gram
TON plans to rebrand its token from Toncoin (TON) to Gram (GRAM), the name used in the original white paper. Pavel Durov said the move is a return to TON’s roots and will take about three weeks. The proposal revives the token name abandoned after the SEC blocked Telegram’s $1.7 billion ICO in 2020. TON says there will be no swap, migration, bridge, claim, or conversion; balances, addresses, contracts, and positions stay unchanged. A vote is underway, with about 80% of 1.8 million TON pledged in support at the time cited. The rebrand is part of a broader “Make TON Great Again” roadmap, following earlier upgrades to speed, lower fees, and Telegram’s takeover as primary driver and largest validator. TON’s goal is to help power a Web3 super-app experience inside Telegram. TON’s price jumped over 15% on the news before partially retracing.
