Trump accord calls for tech firms to ‘self police’ their own frontier AI
Trump and major tech executives signed a voluntary White House accord, the “Joint Commitment on Frontier Responsibilities,” focused on making advanced AI systems “behave as intended.” The agreement shifts much of the near-term responsibility for AI safety to developers and calls for internal controls, independent external audits, and board-level oversight to prevent models from hacking or accessing systems in unintended ways. It also leaves open the option of turning these commitments into future law or regulation. Trump said he sees “tremendous self-policing” by companies and continues to resist slowing AI development, citing competition with China. Attendees included leaders from Google, Anthropic, Meta, OpenAI, Nvidia, and xAI. The meeting also covered AI growth and data centers, and Trump rejected a US-China joint AI venture.
