Trump to meet Coinbase, Ripple and crypto leaders as CLARITY Act odds collapse to 10%
Trump is expected to meet SEC and CFTC leaders and major crypto and prediction-market executives at the White House on Aug. 19, as the industry’s top legislative goal, the CLARITY Act, faces slipping odds in the Senate. The bill would set federal crypto-market rules and split oversight between the SEC and CFTC, but support has eroded over ethics concerns tied to Trump’s crypto ventures, stablecoin rewards, and illicit-finance protections. The Senate is unlikely to reach a vote before a short fall session and pre-election recess. Meanwhile, regulators are acting under existing authority: the SEC is working on crypto-offering and tokenized-securities initiatives, though progress has been uneven, while the CFTC is moving more aggressively on innovation and prediction markets, including a federal defense of Kalshi against state-level challenges.
