UK Crypto Ownership Dropped to 8% in 2025: YouGov Poll

Summary

A recent YouGov poll for the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) indicates UK cryptocurrency ownership fell from 12% in 2024 to 8% in 2025, though this rate is still twice that of 2021. Despite fewer owners, larger holdings are increasing: 21% of holders reported crypto portfolios worth $1,343–$6,708, and 11% held $6,709–$13,416. The FCA notes a shift toward larger investments, especially among those participating in lending and borrowing, who tend to be more risk-tolerant and informed. Among UK holders, 57% own Bitcoin, 43% own Ether, and about 21% hold Solana, with much lower ownership for other altcoins. The poll results coincided with the FCA launching consultations on regulatory rules for crypto exchanges, staking, lending, and DeFi, seeking industry feedback by February as part of broader efforts to regulate the UK crypto sector.
