UK targets Cryptomus, TokenSpot, and payment platforms in new Russia-focused crackdowns
The U.K. sanctioned crypto-related firms including Xeltox Enterprises, which operates Cryptomus, Heleket and Certa Payments, and Kyrgyzstan-based exchange TokenSpot. The designations form part of a wider package targeting 38 entities and individuals accused of supporting Russian sanctions evasion. The government said two targeted businesses facilitated transactions involving A7, a Kremlin-backed network whose ruble-pegged A7A5 stablecoin is used to bypass restrictions; A7 has claimed it moved more than $90 billion. The sanctions freeze the named entities’ U.K. assets and restrict British financial institutions from processing certain payments. The package also targets Russian oil companies, shadow-fleet tankers and suppliers linked to weapons production.
