Winklevoss-owned Gemini switches Zcash software ahead of faster 25-second blocks
Summary
Gemini has replaced its Zcash monitoring software with Zakura ahead of the planned NU7 upgrade, which would shorten block times from 75 seconds to 25. Gemini said Zakura synced to the latest block in just over six hours, compared with nearly a day for its previous software; a developer test reported similar gains and a snapshot-based setup was much faster still. Faster recovery could help limit pauses to ZEC deposits and withdrawals if an exchange’s system falls behind. However, Gemini has not tested Zakura under NU7’s faster block schedule. The upgrade is due for testnet on Oct. 6, with a Nov. 5 mainnet activation targeted pending results.
