Your Shared Claude Chats Were Being Quietly Published on Google
Shared Claude conversation links were publicly indexable by Google because Anthropic omitted a `noindex` tag. A Reddit search for `site:claude.ai/share` surfaced hundreds of users’ chats, including sensitive material like ethics questions, crypto seed phrases, explicit erotica, and political arguments. The same indexing gap affected Claude “artifacts,” exposing payroll sheets, CRM exports, and product roadmaps. `robots.txt` alone was not enough: Google can still index URLs found elsewhere on the web even if it can’t crawl the page content. Google began removing results after Anthropic added `noindex` and updated its settings, but Bing was still surfacing some links at the time. A GitHub archive had already preserved hundreds of exposed Claude and Grok chats in plain text, so deleting shares now only prevents future access, not past copies.
