Zcash developers plan a fix to keep ZEC swaps private from future quantum computers

Summary

Zakura plans to give each ZEC swap through NEAR Intents a separate viewing key, limiting the privacy damage if a future quantum computer derives a key from a publicly posted refund address. Such a breach could expose payments, amounts and memos linked to that swap, but would not reveal the user’s spending key or let an attacker move funds. To simplify wallet recovery across many keys, Zakura proposes private information retrieval so wallets can locate refunds without revealing queried addresses. Quantum attacks remain theoretical; wallets using Zakura libraries may add the feature in the coming weeks, ahead of Zcash developers’ January target for quantum-resistant payments.
