Zcash's Wall Street Moment Reaches Europe With Its First ETP Listing

Summary

21Shares launched Europe’s first Zcash exchange-traded product on Euronext Paris and Amsterdam on Sept. 22 under the ticker ZCASH. The physically backed product holds ZEC with institutional custody, uses BitGo as custodian, and charges a 2.5% annual fee, higher than typical Bitcoin or Ether ETPs. It trades in euros in Paris and dollars in Amsterdam and started small, with about $100,000 in assets on day one. The listing gives traditional investors easier access to Zcash without opening a crypto exchange account or managing private keys. Zcash is a privacy coin that can shield balances and transfers while keeping Bitcoin-like features such as a 21 million cap, proof-of-work mining, and halving schedule. Interest has surged as ZEC rallied more than 2,700% this year, briefly topping $1,600 before pulling back. The launch follows Grayscale’s recent move to convert its Zcash Trust into a U.S. ETF.
