$3.85 Million in Ethereum From Mixin Network Hack Sent to Tornado Cash
A wallet linked to the 2023 Mixin Network hack, which saw $200 million stolen, has recently moved $3.85 million in Ethereum to a new address, which then sent the funds to coin mixer Tornado Cash in 20 transactions. This was the first activity from the attacker-controlled wallet in nearly two years. The original hack, which targeted a Hong Kong-based crypto platform, was one of the largest cross-chain exploits, prompting Mixin to suspend services and pledge compensation to users: up to 50% in stablecoins and the rest via tokenized claims. Mixin issued debt tokens (MDTu, MDTb, MDTe) for affected users, committing to fully repay MDTu holders (about $23 million) by September 2026, with no set repayment schedule for others. Despite the breach, Mixin has continued operations, claims to manage over $1 billion in assets, and serves more than 1 million customers.
