Abstract’s shutdown exposes the gap between owning assets and being able to move them
Abstract, an Ethereum layer-2 network, plans to shut down on Dec. 15, 2026, and urges users to migrate assets beforehand. Users are directed to its Migration Hub and bridge options, but the available routes and supported assets may vary, and the cited interfaces are not necessarily interchangeable. Withdrawal timing involves processing, settlement and possible claim steps, so the shutdown date is not a guaranteed last safe time to begin a transfer. Self-custody does not ensure access if the network’s processing or required infrastructure stops. Abstract’s smart-wallet recovery can restore signing authority, but not the services needed to complete an exit; users should also check control of destination addresses and account for NFTs, staked assets, collateral and application positions. Future operational notices will clarify route availability and cutoff times.
