Anthropic strikes $9B compute deal with Bitcoin miner Riot: Report
Summary
Riot Platforms said it signed a 20-year deal to provide 191 megawatts from its Rockdale, Texas campus to a leading frontier AI company. Bloomberg identified the customer as Anthropic and valued the agreement at about $9 billion. This follows Anthropic’s separate $19 billion, 20-year data center lease with TeraWulf earlier in July. The deal adds Riot to a growing group of Bitcoin miners shifting into AI and high-performance computing, alongside Bitdeer, CleanSpark, MARA, Core Scientific, Hut 8, and IREN. Riot’s stock dropped 5.4% on Monday but jumped in after-hours trading, while its shares remain up more than 53% year to date.
