Binance Pay lets visitors spend USDT at PayPay merchants in Japan

Summary

Binance Pay will let eligible overseas visitors in Japan spend Tether (USDT) at most PayPay-supported merchants starting Wednesday. The service works through HIVEX, a payment interoperability network linking overseas QR payment services with PayPay merchants, while merchants still receive yen settlement. Binance says it is the first crypto payment service to gain access to PayPay-supported merchants via HIVEX, and merchants do not need to opt in separately. PayPay is widely accepted across Japan at millions of locations, including major stores, small retailers, vending machines, taxis, and public transport. Japan remains a major tourist destination, with 42.7 million international visitors in 2025.
