CFTC to join SEC in exploring crypto regulations without CLARITY bill
The CFTC plans an Aug. 20 Innovation Advisory Committee meeting to discuss crypto assets, AI, and prediction markets, including possible regulatory steps that could complement future congressional legislation. The agenda signals the agency may explore how to handle crypto regulation if Congress does not act soon, following the Senate’s failure to advance the CLARITY Act before recess. The SEC also scheduled a separate meeting and said it wants to consider new rules for certain crypto investment contracts, while supporting Congress’s market-structure efforts. Until legislation passes, the SEC said it will act within its existing authority. The CFTC remains short-staffed, with Michael Selig as the only Senate-confirmed commissioner and chair, prompting renewed pressure on the White House to fill leadership vacancies.
