Chainalysis Sues US Government Over $94.6M ICE Contract Handed to Rival TRM Labs
Chainalysis is challenging a nearly $94.6 million ICE contract awarded to TRM Labs without full competition. Chainalysis Government Solutions filed a bid protest in the U.S. Court of Federal Claims on July 27, arguing ICE’s sole-source decision was arbitrary and unreasonable after Chainalysis had submitted a capability statement. The contract covers one year of blockchain forensic software and support for Homeland Security Task Force investigations, including scams, cybercrime, and sextortion cases. The complaint remains sealed because it contains confidential business information and trade secrets. TRM Labs joined the case as a defendant-intervenor, and expedited oral arguments are set for September 2, with a decision requested by September 10. ICE says it conducted about six days of market research, received eight responses, and concluded only TRM met its needs. The dispute highlights the growing value of federal blockchain-intelligence work.
