Coinbase, MicroStrategy, Marathon Stocks Buckle 5%-10% as Bitcoin Tumbles Below $42K
Shares of cryptocurrency-related firms fell sharply following Bitcoin's significant overnight drop. MicroStrategy, which holds nearly 175,000 BTC, was down by six percent, and Coinbase was down over five percent. Bitcoin mining firms listed on Nasdaq, such as Marathon Digital Holdings, Riot Platforms, Hut 8, and CleanSpark, experienced losses between ten and fifteen percent. This followed a sudden correction in cryptocurrency markets, causing Bitcoin to drop nearly ten percent from $44,000. Despite these losses, cryptocurrency stocks have shown significant recovery in 2023, with several firms' shares more than doubling since the start of the year due to a cryptocurrency market rally, declining interest rates, and anticipation of potential regulatory approval for a spot Bitcoin ETF in the U.S.
