Dormant Bitcoin Whale Moves $383 Million After More Than 8 Years
A Bitcoin wallet inactive since December 2017 moved 5,907.56 BTC, worth about $383.6 million, to a new address after more than 8.5 years dormant. The coins were first received on Dec. 14, 2017 and transferred in block 958217. Galaxy Research estimates the holdings gained about $285.5 million, a 291% return based on an average acquisition price near $17,000 per BTC. The transfer went to a previously unidentified wallet, not a known exchange deposit address, so it does not clearly signal a sale. Galaxy Research labeled the sender “Noah Doe #27 – Salomon Client Dusted,” tying it to its earlier Noah Doe litigation analysis involving claims over millions of dormant Bitcoin addresses. The move also shifted funds from a legacy “1” address to a newer bc1q address format.
