Elon Musk Accuses Anthropic AI of Being 'Misanthropic' After $30B Funding Round
Elon Musk criticized Anthropic’s AI as “misanthropic and evil,” claiming it is biased against Whites, Asians, heterosexuals, and men, after Anthropic announced a $30 billion funding round at a $380 billion valuation—making it the most valuable private AI lab outside OpenAI. Musk’s comments coincided with major departures at his own AI firm, xAI. Anthropic’s Series G round included investments from major funds and companies, with Microsoft and NVIDIA among them. The company reported a $14 billion annualized revenue run-rate, growing over 10 times annually for three years, and significant adoption of its Claude Code product, which now authors 4% of public GitHub commits. The funding round is second only to OpenAI’s $40 billion raise. Competition between Anthropic and OpenAI has intensified with the near-simultaneous release of rival models and ongoing public disputes. Musk has also recently clashed with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman over AI safety and accused OpenAI of betraying its nonprofit mission. Both companies continue to vie for leadership in enterprise AI, escalating their rivalry through ads and product launches.
