Ethereum Layer-2 Network Starknet Back Online Following Outage

Summary

Starknet, an Ethereum layer-2 scaling network, experienced over four hours of downtime early Monday due to a block production issue triggered by a proving error in a transaction. Block production on the mainnet was halted for investigation, and the network was reverted to block 5187263. The issue was identified, tested, and resolved, with full operational status resumed around 9:00 am ET. Transactions sent between 9:24 am and 9:42 am UTC may not have processed properly. A full retrospective will be provided later. This marks Starknet’s second major outage in recent months, following downtime and chain reorganizations after a September upgrade. Starknet, which now supports Bitcoin staking and rewards in STRK tokens, saw only a minor, less than 1% decline in STRK’s price during the incident. Ethereum’s price increased during the same period.
